For an update to anyone cares.  I have got fibre, had it for a while.  Got the intel Wireless AC card as I mentioned above - but TalkTalks new super router has been causing me much headaches for the last few months.  TalkTalk refuse to address this problem even though their forums are starting to get others experience it too - head, sand, and burried spring to mind.

Anyhow, took delivery of the Asus DSL-AC68U modem/router today, set it up.  ALL my problems are gone.  TalkTalk, if you ever read other forums - Your new router HAS issues.  Asus, Love you router, just need better instructions !

Cheers

Hi Quinnicus,

Look, I know it's not past midnight - well technically it is but it's also past midday

Anyway, I too am a talktalk customer and I got rid of the modem / router that they supplied some years ago for a Belkin unit. If I ever get fibre I was looking at this: Asus DSL-N66U Wireless ADSL/VDSL Modem Router

I see your model must be an improvement, it is certainly more expensive ! I take it you only need this and have done away with the Open Reach modem ?

I am pleased you are happy - I also notice you have been awarded a deserved upgrade to Specialist

Took my mum out for lunch today... Carpark is already small enough as it is, with a lack of parking.  But.... This is how to be an (_*_) to others - BWM entitlement issue:

So I stayed up all night to watch the US election results come in - wow, just wow.  5:10am, and its been looking like a Trump win for a while now.  Global Markets all down.

When will these pollsters learn - they are crap at their jobs.

@Jonnie1266 - Just re-read your post and remembered that I should have replied back

Im on my second DSL-AC68U now - I somehow managed to fry the internal modem on that router, but router part worked fine.  I moved to Plusnet, but I had an issue with their router too...  Network speed issue on their router was not up to 'my standard'.  so purchased another DSL-AC68U.  Asus refused a refund on my first one - wasnt too happy, but hey.

The 'Specialist' upgrade you was referring to was actually a 'downgrade' - LOL  - I took 6 months off from these forums (health reasons) and at the time, I wasnt sure I was coming back, so I requested the removal of the 'expert' status.  As you know, im baaaack

Nice to have you back Quinnicus !!

I didn't realise Specialist was below Expert - they both sound equal to me, unless we go down the route of jack of all trades and master of none

Anyhoo I have since left TalkTalk as they had me on the same plan as others that are entitled to a YouView box, however they would not issue the box because my internet speed is too slow  I did ask why I should pay the same monthly fee as this was no fault of my own but after the challenge of speaking to several customer service people in the sub continent and getting nowhere I gave up.

I used to be with Virgin but they do not serve my area anymore as they have no plans to 'cable' my rural abode. So the circle is now complete and I am back with good old BT. I should enter this on the Whinge Thread.

My Belkin modem router (after four years) finally started to slow down although it did not "fry", so I hooked up the BT hub 4 that was supplied FOC with my contract. Hey ho we have the best speed ever, at least for me.

If I ever get fibre I will negotiate for the smart hub which does away with an external modem, I think I have spent enough on this for now.

Regards
