Hi I am getting mixed messages about being able to record to a usb harddive. Youview site says you cannot record on Sony TV yet. Product information states you USB recording I have tried to record and just get message this button is unavailable in Youview mode. Can anyone please help thanks in advance

You can Disable YouView, and the TV will operate as a Freeview set, without the YouView backward EPG, and the YouView Search.

And in pre-2020 sets, you would also lose the itv and Channel 4 catchup apps, but the 2020 sets retain these.

On the Freeview side, you can record, and you can also access the satellite channels if you have a dish, neither of which things is possible on the YouView side.
