Xperia Ray: Wired headset adapter with media controls

Is there a way to know if a particular wired headset (Sony Ericsson or not) with media controls (single or multiple buttons) will work (or not) with my Xperia Ray ? (before buying and trying it, I mean !)
Ideally, I'm looking for a wired headset adapter with media controls (play/pause, previous/next track, volume... but I suppose a single button could be enough thanks to such android apps), and if possible with a microphone, that allows me to plug and use any headphones.

There really isn't, unfortunately.

It is either (as you said) try-before-you-buy, or a bluetooth device.

We don't have a wired headset that meets your needs.

So it means that some headset adapters will/could work ?
Then if anybody has a successful experience with such a device working on an Xperia, please let me know !

By the way, just a technical question: as there's usually no additional contact on the jack, how do headset buttons work ?...

I have purchased SE MW600 Bluetooth earphones and they sounds excellent. However, track and album id doesn't show on headset receiver for some reason.

I also received a set of SE ribbon headphones with the phone anyway, which I've been told are really good (controls on the cord) although i've not used them yet.

any other makes/ types, i don't know...

Seems it would work (the 'adapter' part), as I guess the single button should control everything thanks to an adequate app (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.kober.headsetbutton&hl=fr).

Too bad it's not sold separately (without the headphones) !

I'm wondering if a SE MH-500 or HPM-75J headset (also divided in 2 parts, so that you can use any headphones you want) would work with the Xperia Ray...

They will work, but that button will only answer/end calls.

Just received the SE HPM-75/J headset I recently ordered on eBay.

It works perfectly with my Xperia Ray !

(with the delivered SE headphones and also with my old ones)

With the JAYS android app, I can control almost anything I want:

Hi! I just bought a Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray with Gingerbread 2.3.4. I really like this phone, the camera is superior with it's crystal clear 2nd microphone. Lately, I found out that the main microphone, the one used for phone calls, has a distorted noise when I tested it by using an audio recorder. I tested calling another phone and the same distortion was there. I thought the microphone has a problem, so I used the headset that came with the phone and found that the distortion was still there. I think this problem is software related. Is there any solution to this? I'm planning to upgrade to ICS, but I fear that it would use too much system RAM and I'm not sure if it will work. I like the 512MB RAM because it will not use too much battery power, that's the ideal phone for me aside from having superior capabilities. I'm now planning to reset the phone to factory default, I don't know what will happen and if it will work. I think this is a system problem that has been overlooked since nobody can readily tell if the main microphone which we only use to make phone calls is not working well. The second microphone used with the camera is superior. I compared the recorded result of the camera microphone against that of the main microphone and found that the latter made some distorted sound, maybe if you fix with sound filtering software, it might just work .....................
