Hi all

Just curious on how you all sort out your wires and cables at the back of your equipment. I keep trying and am never happy with it. Its almost becoming an OCD !! Argh. I get so much of the way, and then all the cables seem to criss-cross all over the place. As well as different cable lengths etc.

Ive posted some pics below, to show you what I mean.

Hi Quinnicus,

From a commercial wiring point of view (servers etc.) we use velcro reels of narrow velcro and cut to size to easily tidy up cables. We don't use the velcro wraps or the cable ties as they are too difficult to reuse or remove when we need to recable something.

Of course my house is a mess....

Just my 2c

binbash

and thats after you've tidied it up! lol, it is definately difficult to lose all the wires and mines not in a corner!, having said that if that was me i would make a shallow triangular box with a lid and place it behind the stand and chuck all the surplus cable and plugs into that, just carve a few notches just under the lid for the cable for their relative bit of kit.

Thanks guys for some suggestions.

Binbash - I have just ordered 3meters x 15mm of cutable velcro straps (lets see how that works). Im going to use the plastic cable ties for the perminant cables that must stay, and the velcro for the rest.

Bravia - I have thought about making a triangular wedge to jam in that corner (and painting it black). Or even adding some black material at the back of the TV stand itself and shutting it all off. But in my head, I still know its a mess !!!!:smileylaugh:

Neilson - The cables from the AV receiver arnt so bad really. They are all speaker cables, and thats not too hard. Other than a couple of HDMI's added ontop. Although the 7.1 surround kickz azz !! BUT i cant turn the sound too loud, I live in a flat.

#Note - All this came about me adding a Networked Media Player (My dear Sony, I am terribly sorry for being disloyal on this occasion, yours just didnt tick enough boxes. Im sending Sony a virtual beer as a piece gesture)

Right, you see adding a Networed Media Player (done away with my Synology/Serviio idea BTW), I ran out of network cables and could not fit any more in the trunking that I installed (2 x Aerial cables, 4 x speaker cables, 2 x CAT5e). So i replaced the 2 x CAT5e UTP, to 1 x CAT6 STP and installed a TP-Link gigabit switch under the TV. But all those added cables under the TV is now doing my head in.

#Note2 - The CEC over HDMI functions quite well on the NMP to the Sony AV Receiver and TV. I can still use my 1 Sony Remote control (for the TV) on all my devices. (once I switch the NMP on by the way), If it wasnt for the Control over HDMI, I would be having to use 5 remote controls, bahh)

Anyway, thanks all for listening

Ok, for anyone who cares, I think Ive got it the best I can. Using a combination of plastic cable ties (for perminant cables) and velcro strips for the rest. And it took me hours - I thought I'd give everything a good clean/dust whilst I was at it.
