Well, i have large battery problem. I consider to return my phone for service - i use it lot, have many apps installed and it restarts as soon there it gets little warm. X10 should have better battery life. That phone is for being used, not just for calls and text messaging...

Hi, I got my x10 2 days ago and as much as I'm getting to grips with it I still need some help. How do I get my own tones for my incoming msgs? Also, I don't seem to be able to set up timescape. When you set up your e-mail account, which e-mail account do you need as I would like to use my hotmail account but not sure if it would be an imap or pop3 account. Please can someone help me with this as although the batt life not gr8 I think the phone itself is amazing and want to take full advantage of it's capabilities. Thank you very much in advance. x

Hi there,

Firstly with tones - for some strange reason you cannot change tones with the standard software on the phone. Go into the market place, and download Tone Picker. Nice and simple program.

Secondly, battery life isn't great - but remember you're running a mobile computer, not a phone, so around 12hrs is more or less 'ok' IMO.

From memory Hotmail is a pop3 account setup.

I prefer to use Gmail, its just easier - especially being able to backup your calendar and contacts on a gmail account. Nice and easy if something happens to your phone to recover lost contacts.

No problems.

Also - a few things with battery life:

a) automatic sync of facebook/twitter etc - I'd make these minimal (every few hours). As if its every 5minutes, then every 5 minutes your phone will 'awake', download data (anywhere from 10-30seconds) and then go back to sleep. If you're in an area with low signal strength, this will chew the battery quite badly.

b) avoid letting the battery get hot, this also drains it. A good app for monitoring battery percentage and health/temperature is Battery Indicator by Darshan Computing. Small, doesn't drain the battery like some other apps do.

c) screen time out, turn the screen off when you dont need it. That and set the timeout to 30-60seconds.

d) bluetooth off unless you're using it.

e) things like GPS, I find dont affect the battery too greatly - as when GPS is on, but not used it doesn't drain power.

f) screen brightness - set to auto, or manually lower it.

With this, and using internet/sms/emails/calls I generally get around 12hrs before its down to 50%, then around 16hrs before its down to 33%. So more or less reasonable.
