Had similar problems - doesn't seem to matter which set of headphones I use, the phone doesn't recognise that they're plugged in. Sent mine in to be repaired - the first time it came back with the software reinstalled, which didn't fix anything. The second time someone had actually fixed it, but now (about 3 weeks later) it's broken again. Any way to fix it? I don't want to be taking my phone to be repaired once a month until the contract expires.

On the rare occasions it will actually play through the headphones, sometimes the media volume will spontaneously drop to zero, as well.

Hey guys,

lately I've been getting this weird problem with the 3.5 mm audio jack for my Z1. It all started by suddenly when I listened to music through the headphones the music paused. When I pressed play I noticed that the music now is playing through the regular speaker, even though the headphones are still plugged in. When I try to unplug/plug it in the sound is back in the headphones for one second, then pauses and when I resume it plays through the phone's speakers. No sound from apps or calls go through the headphones.

I noticed that this problem was not headphone-related, as I tried with different but got the same result. This problem sometimes fixes by a reboot, but often you have to wait a longer period of time, like charging it overnight, before it works again.

Now, for two entire days I've had this problem that the Phone even doesn't recognize that I Have headphones plugged in. Before you got some feedback before it changed to the speakers, but now none. Tried rebooting in safe mode, leaving it off a long while, but no. I was worried that the jack was broken, but suddenly when I tested I was surprised to find that it magically worked, once again? Sigh.

Solutions? Anybody else got the same?

Hi,

still the same problem. I asked the Sony Support by mail and all I got was what looked like a generic reply of doing the PC Companion repair on the phone. I did that, but no result.

I would really appreciate any help on this matter.

I bought new SONY STH30 and they don't work as they must. The Volume(-) pushbuttom makes the volume drops to zero. I have been doing many trials and is not a hardware problem. The new kit kat (.757) doesn´t work properly. The headphones works fine with Xperia L, Xperia Z and Xperia Z1 with Jelly Beam (.290). I have just proved it. Hope new software solve the problems asap.

I have experienced this for a long time now. The devise can't be very temperamental with any set of headphones that I use. It will play the song, when I skip the track or the track ends, it then pauses, I press play and it plays out the phones speaker, very embarrassing on the bus but extremely extremely frustrating!
I have done a factory rest on the devise before to no avail. Tried other headphones and used both Google play music and the Sony Walkman apps.
I am growing more and more tired of this. I used to love my z1 but now it's becoming more hassle than its worth

My Z1 still have the same problem. It come when the headphone is plugged and you received the call.

Solution: Restart your phone and everything is ok.

Cause (as my opinion):

- Sony has designed Z1 will sound loud when you have a call as the headphone is plugged.

- But the guy who coded this function forget to reset status of this phone back to music listen mode after the call end.

(Just for fun ^^)

That is Sony kitkat problem, headphone works once and then sound plays from phone speakers, we have to restart each time to get sound again.
Following app solve the problem temporary
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.woodslink.android.wiredheadphoneroutingfix
Install app, then add widget on screen and on the widget by click on it, sound will play in headphone. After listen off the widget by click on it. Check its settings for detailed options. It works for me perfectly.

Permanent solution we can hope in android 5 by Sony.
