Z3 bent/twisted

I recently noticed that my Z3 phone had a slight bend/twist. We are not talking about a massive amount, but it was noticeable when holding up in front of you eye (at eye level) and looking across the back of the phone, or by laying on a flat surface and pressing the corner which would reveal the slight bend/twist.

At this point I should add that I am very careful with my handset and do not put the handset in my rear pocket. The handset had never being dropped, or sat on and I keep it in my suit jacket pocket, or a trouser pocket, when out and about.

I spoke to Sony who to be fair, told me about their legal statement, which states that it is ok and classed as normal use, to place the handset in a side trouser pocket. Feeling reassured with this I agreed for Sony to arrange a courier to collect the handset to allow for an examination, to get to the bottom of why this may have occurred.

To cut a long story short, the handset was lost so was never examined by SBE and Sony provided me with another new Z3.

After the experience, I kept checking my Z3 handsets (I have 2) the new replacement handset was showing the same slight bend/twist within a couple of weeks and my other Z3 also has the same slight bend/twist.

Sony requested for me to send in the recently replaced handset for examination. This was sent to SBE and the report said that it would need a screen replacement. I spoke to Sony management and was told that my handset would be repaired and returned to me by today (Saturday 7th November 2015). Last night when I returned home, I have an invoice for £126.62 before the handset would be repaired and returned! There was no mention of a charge when I spoke to a manager at Sony on Wednesday!

Now as previously mentioned, I look after my handset very carefully and I do love the Z3. I feel that I have used the phone as intended and not placed any unusual pressure on the handsets to cause the issue and therefore feel that in these circumstances the handsets that have twisted are not of reasonably quality and fit for purpose.

I would be interested to hear your opinions on this and it would be great if you could run your eyes over your Z3’s to see if you too have the same issue.

Kind regards

Steve

I'm sorry to hear that, contact Sony again Local support, do you keep your phone on your back pocket, I've seen users bending their phones (not just Xperias) bc they sit w/ their phones in their back pocket or while wearing really tight pants.

I have almost the same problem, mine is well taken care of and always in my front pocket. I bent down and my Z3 bent so much as to crack the front and back glass, so I called Sony and they said it would be under warenty so I sent it in and got a call saying that it would not be covered and I had to pay $150, I then had them send it back to give me time to save up and I recived it almost compleatly destroyed. I am still trying to get Sony to fix this.

My z3+ got offered an update about 2 months ago. Accepting the update killed my camera . Another update a couple of weeks later.fingers crossed it would fix my problem. Nope. Phone decided to power down and took hours to turn back on. I managed to factory reset it hoping it would reset any crap updates. Nope. Wouldn't load. Strange swirly screen. Took it to car phone wharehouse. The kept it for two weeks. And told me they couldnt fix it because it's bent. I was about to send it to sony then saw your post. 8 months into a 24 month contract and I like you never put it in my back pocket. I have a work phone I'm on now so I don't even use it hardly during the day.

Similar story, but worse.

Z3 leaked within 3 months while rinsing. Screen bleached out, but returned to normal after drying, and all seemed fine. 3 months after that, strangely warm/hot phone, even while in standby. A restart seemed to solve that. Then a few days later, I pulled my phone from my pocket, and the screen was shattered, rendering the whole phone useless.

As a bus driver, my uniform includes side pockets, where my phone resides on my left. Absolutely safe from sitting on, or impacts of any kind. Friday, after work, I pull my phone out and the screen is shattered for no apparent reason. It also shows a slight bend, suggesting I might have pressed it against something with my leg, but I didn't remember any such incident. And it's only the face, which is always inboard, so nothing could have hit it, or it would have broken the back glass.

I've owned only Sony flagship phones for 3 plus years each. A C905, an XperiaS, and an XperiaZ1. All brilliant. All durable. All showing only scratches from years of regular use.

The Z1 was especially good. Great camera, durable, and waterproof. It's been sat on. Dropped from up to 6 feet. Dropped while walking, then kicked. And used underwater for years. It eventually leaked after all, effecting lens quality and battery life.

The Z3 was a natural progression, but has proven unacceptibly fragile.

This forum, shows many shattered screens, and other quality issues with this phone.

It's sad to see Sony continue to pursue every possible niche of the phone market, and create too many models each year. It is cheapening the brand, and wasting resources that could instead create a SMALLER but BETTER product line.
