Hello folks, my M5 is only a few months old but the ear speaker has suddenly stopped working. There's no sound at all during calls, no ring tone, voices, nothing.

Earphones and the second speaker working just fine.

Any suggestions? Is this likely a software issue? Or more likely to be hardware? I really don't want to have to be without a phone for 10 days whilst it's getting fixed!!!

The phone hasn't been dropped/damaged/submerged etc.

Thanx in advance for all and any advice offered.

Gaz

Hi @Hodgey,

I am sorry to hear that.

Can you try rebooting your device to safe mode, and then go to Settings > About phone > Diagnostics > Test > Ear speaker, can you hear anything here?

If you still can't hear anything, then I suggest trying a software repair using Xperia Companion. If that doesn't help then you can contact your Local support for assistance with having your device sent to service so that a technician may have a look at it.

Well I tried safe mode and it didn't help.

pc companion would be difficult as I don't currently own a pc, could I use my daughters chrome book?

ive just put the phone on charge, when it's at 80%+ I will bite the bullet and try a backup&reset.

if that fails i guess I will have to send it for repair. Just wish Sony had a local repair centre rather than having to put the phone in the post, I gotta say it was hard for me to switch to Sony after being a dedicated Samsung user for the past 6 years, but my brother persuaded me, I hope I don't regret making the change..

And the reset hasn't worked either.

Fuming. Is an understatement.

Just noticed in the forum headers that the m5 has more topics posted than any other model.

Trust me to pick the crappest phone produced my Sony.

Shouldn't blame myself though tbh. The marketing campaign for this model and the spec sheet would make anybody believe they were buying something special.

Looks like I would've been better of buying a 2nd hand Z model.

Or better yet. Stuck too SAMSUNG
