USB media transfer not working?

OK so I am trying to back up all my files on my z5 to my PC/external hard drive. I've tried on two different PCs. Both computers detect my phone and I am sometimes able to view files. However whenever I try to transfer the files from my phone to my PC, windows explorer freezes and stops responding. What can I do to make my computers stop freezing when I try to transfer files?
The first PC was running Windows 7, the 2nd PC I tried was running Windows 10.
My z5 compact is running marshmallow 6.0.1

instead of try to use ctrl+C or V. and right click , try to show both windows side-side and drag the files you want to copy to the pc.

also try to avoid editing names/ add folders inside the explorer, best to do it on pc then transfer to sd card.

I tried. No matter what windows explorer keeps freezing/stops responding. I really want to back my files up to my external hard drive. Is there another solution?

Monicaxo, when windows freeze while copying files means that there is a bottleneck somewhere in the system. Can be a wrong driver that control the USB storage, can be a faulty usb port (you may try a different usb port) or can be "simply" a corrupted windows 7 installation.

There are many ways to backup contents to your computer:

1) Via USB and Xperia XC
2) Do a backup in your SD card, then connect your SD card to your computer using a SD card reader
3) Bluetooth connection: transfer files to your computer using Bluetooth
4) Copy the content of your phone using Google drive or Dropbox or One drive or whatever cloud storage service you fill comfortable and then download the content in your computer.

Now, question: what are the specs of your computer? Does it have usb v.2? Is it a laptop or desktop?

Monicaxo I wish I could help you more, but without specs I can't advise you more, but all the otherwise methods should be enough and valid for you to accomplish a backup copy.

Please let us know how it goes.
