Well, do this. Go in the play store, download speedtest by Ookla and run a speed test while in 4g. High ping results and low download speed can be what it's affecting the game play, it could be a Sim card/carrier issue or that the phone is missing the APNs for 4g/lte.

What are your results with the speedtest?

Edit: On WiFi an acceptable ping value is about 8/40ms on 4g/lte any value between 60/90ms is acceptable.

On WiFi you should have more than 5mbps (depending your provider), on 4g/lte you should have similar results or better, if less than 1mbps and ping values greater than 90 you could expect massive lags.

I bought my daughter this phone so she could join in with the new Pokemon GO phenom but it is showing some strange behaviour.

all our family have Xperia phones - M2 to Z3 and they all work perfectly.

The E5 works fine on the wifi connection but as soon as you go out to use the 4G it basically stops the game from being playable. As this is the only change I can only think that the 4g connection for this phone is some what different to the other phones in your ranges?

can you run the game straight to 4G? not turning on wifi.

try to set your network type to 4g preferred. or make sure you have the right APN settings
