Before marshmallow the fingerprint scanner would work even without pressing the power button. However, after the update we are made to press the button. Why is it so? Is this issue faced by all or its just me! I fail to understand why would I need to press the button again an again to unlock where it should automatically detect.

Like alexdon said you should not have to press the power key once the phone is awake in order for it to scan your fingerprint. safe mode is a good idea but if that does not help you should perform a software repair using Xperia Companion.
