Zx1 compact icon on status bar

I keep getting a double triangle icon appearing on my Sony zx1 compact status bar - either beside the WiFi symbol or the network strength symbol. What does it mean? How do I get rid of it/them?

Hi @Hpb,

As @uliwooly pointed out these icons indicate that your device is uploading and downloading data using mobile data. If you see these symbols next to your Wi-Fi icon it means you are using Wi-Fi to do the same.

There is no setting to disable these icons without disabling the icons for Wi-FI and mobile data respectively.

Emil, those arrows are distracting with its appear/disappear icons and moving the other icons to the left when on activity. Android 8 does not have this on google phones nor any xperia (including XZP).

Is this a case of bad implementation?

Can you check it out with developers?

Im pretty sure the arrows should be on top of the WIFI strengh icon like on any other phone in the market ...

Thanks for getting back to me with your answers. I'm having real trouble with very slow connections using WiFi and ee network and I wondered if these symbols and uploads/downloads are making it worse. Also, these symbols don't appear in my user guide. Thanks again.

Yep it is very annoying to see all icons in the status bar keeps moving around due to that arrow. It seems Google now left a space on each side of the two signal icon in 8.1, hopefully it will come soon.

I posted this in XZ1 space, and opened a support request a week ago - Accordion in Notification Bar - there is an animation of how it looks in the worst case.

It's hellishly annoying. Sony, please put it into your TODO list, alongside RAW support.

So, if you are ok with enabling USB debugging, and running adb command, then disabling debugging settings, feel free to use Sony Android Oreo Flavor: Accordion in Notification Bar on Network Activity solution, it persists across reboot and does not require firmware modification (it uses the same method Oreo theming is implemented).
