topic Headset Not Supported in XZ Series

I keep getting a "Headset Not Supported" pop-up error when I connect the same pair of headphones that have worked perfectly until now.

I read another post that recommended reinstalling Smart Connect. It wasn't even on my phone, so I installed that and now my headphones work 1 in every 50 to 100 times I plug them in. On the successful attempts, Smart Connect recognizes the headphones being plugged in.

These headphones have the standard two connector lines on the plug, which I believe denote a stereo connection. I did find a work around by using an 1/8" to 1/8" adapter; the male plug has 3 connection lines. I'm not sure if the phone randomly decided that it wants that third line or what, but I'd really like to figure out what is going on.

Has anyone run into this and found an actual fix? I don't like having to rely on that adapter piece, as it's just another thing I have to carry around with me. It's also small n easy to lose, especially when drunk... and yes, I already lost it!

 Thanks.
