Connecting Xperia to Smart TV

I am beyond annoyed at trying to get my smartphone to connect to my Samsung smart TV via apps and WiFi or bluetooth. I can never seem to find the right app or I have to be right next to the TV for it to register. My phone is an Xperia 10 ii, the TV is a Samsung. Can anyone recommend a good app, or will an HDMI for USB C cable do the job? TIA.

I can get it to mirror the screen, but I'd like to see my photos full screen or as a slideshow - obviously in portrait mode that's not ideal but hey...

I bought a Google Chromecast a long time ago.

It doesn't require any skills, sits there quietly behind my tv and is always ready to display.

Thanks, I wondered if they were user friendly. I usually keep trying things till something works, but my partner is not good with technology.
