That's normal, it seems to get hot faster than other phones because of how thin it is and the materials. Now, if it gets too hot then the phone should shut down.

Try to repair your phone with SUS or PCC

Update Service (SUS)

http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/update-service/

http://www-support-downloads.sonymobile.com/Software%20Downloads/Update_Service_Setup-2.11.12.5.exe

PC Companion (PCC)

Bridge (for Mac)

Alternatives on How to backup Xperias

http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/36355

My new Xperia Z1 is overheating a lot on very minimum use.

Even when I'm browsing or using the dialer it gets extremely overheated.

While making calls within 30 secs it starts becoming unbearable. I am almost having to use another phone because of this overheating issue.

Is anyone else having this same problem, or is it just me?

Please let me know ASAP as this is very serious issue. I didn't expect such poor performance from such a hyped up and well designed phone.

The phone will get warm while using it or running applications. The phone has an built in thermal application that will sense if the phone becomes too hot. Have you received any messages on the phone saying its getting overheated?

If not I suspect it works as intended but if you feel uncertain about this I suggest that you visit your local Sony retailer to have this checked.

I don't have any software like that installed. I know how to reduce energy consumption. Before the Z1 I had an HTC Desire HD rooted with Android 4.2.2 with the original 3 years old 1200Mah battery with the same apps and it lasted longer on a full battery.

How is the picture below corresponding with the specs from Sony?

Batterij (geïntegreerd)

Minimaal 3000 mAh

Gesprekstijd (GSM)

Tot 830 minuten**

Stand-by-tijd (GSM)

Tot 880 uur**

Gesprekstijd (UMTS)

Tot 900 minuten**

Stand-by-tijd (UMTS)

Tot 850 uur**

Stand-by-tijd (LTE)

Tot 760 uur**

Muziekafspeeltijd

Tot 110 uur**

Videoafspeeltijd

Tot 400 minuten**

The figures from sony are absolutes in perfect conditions, you need to understand that the harder you push a modern smarphone the more battery it will use, I haven't tried on the Z1 but on my XZ I could run the battery down from full charge to 5% in about 3hrs playing high end 3D games, your phone is designed to last a day with normal usage without recharge, at the moment my Z1 lasts 2 days with a mixed usage and is getting better as I cycle the battery

My phone is currently on battery 9hrs 32mins and is on 85% battery

The phone will learn your usage pattern over time - but remember it's only an estimate and at the end it's up to you

What I see in your posted screen is an estimate that at 90% battery you have 1 day 8hrs left - and 13hrs if you continue your current usage pattern if you think there is something wrong with that then I have no answer for you, there are many things you can do to reduce battery drain, it will also make a difference as to how you use your phone, the bottom line is that the screen can be powered anywhere from 6hrs to over 10hrs that should give you a guide as to what to expect as you add other functions like GPS gaming etc I'd be interested in knowing what you have installed and what is using your battery - a screen shot would help

I have found my Z1 to be 25% better than both the XZ and XZU - that's pretty good considering the highend hardware packed into this device.

If you expect anything more then nobody here can help you

I am not sure if you have z1 but I would say it is very abnormal. My z1 get overheated very quick. It can be as quick as 15 minutes by just playing with the preinstalled apps like camera and browser (no games). Once it was overheated, the camera would not launch and it showed an overheating warning. My old z did not have this problem!

The phone CPU was running at the top speed most of the time when the phone was being used according to CPU Spy app so I suspect there is something wrong with the current firmware.

ps. Just to clarify I have not installed any other apps (except the one mentioned above) to my z1 and software repair did not solve the problem.

As strife says, the phone has protection against overheating and will give a message if it becomes too hot and may also turn itself off. Due to the phones hardware and design it's normal that the phone becomes warm when using it.

@strife

If you get that message when using the phone in normal temperatures i recommend that you contact a service location or local Sony Xperia support (http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/support/contact-us/) for further investigation of the phone.

Hello,

ich had my new Xperia Z1 inside my pocket. Befor lunch everything works fine. After i came back from lunch, i was unable to put my Z1 on. The phone was very hot (on both sides --> front and back) and did nothing when presing any button (Display was also off). Only an restart with the small button in the micro SD slot helped me out.

After the restart the battery was at only 7% while it was at about 80% before lunch. So the telefone discharges in only one to one an a half houres.

I think this behaviour is very critical, so what is the reason for that?

In an other Thread i read that the telefone is shutting down when it becomes to hot. But my phone was off an gets hot. So just the restart helped an the telephone cooled down after restarting with the reset buttin in micro SD slot.
