Hello all,

I have lately noticed, that when I'm calling or getting a call, I can't hear the other side unless I'm switching to speaker mode.

What might be the problem?

Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

I suggest that you use this app to test your ear speaker.

If you can't hear anything from the ear speaker during test I suggest that you try to reinstall the phone software using Update Service..

Before reinstalling your device you may want to backup your information first. Check out this topic for more information on how to.
How to backup?

If the issue should still remain I think that this needs to be examined and fixed at a repair center. For more information about how to submit your phone for repair and where, contact your local support team.

thank you Johan for the you're help and the link to this examining app.

What seems to be the problem is a Contact problem, when I'm taping or pressing lightly on the upper frame of the phone over the ear speaker it works.

I am experiencing the same problem as itzik, Sony xperia z with latest software updates installed. Did a software reinstall fix this?

Hi sir, I have the same problem. I cannot hear anything while i'm calling or receiving a call, I need to plug an earphone or on the loudspeaker to hear them. Yesterday I used it with a good condition, I just noticed that problem today. I'm not sure if that's with call settings but I have tried my best to experiment it. I have done whatever guidelines you've said. I downloaded the link that you gave and other instructions but there are no changes. Can you help me? or just explain the possibilities why i'am encountering this problem with My xperia ZR? Thanks in advance. Have a good day! Hope to hear from you!

When making and receiving calls I can sometimes only hear the other person when putting the phone on loud speaker. This doesn't happen all the time. The only advice I have received is to repair the software.

Can anyone tell me if this has solved the problem for them?

Do you have slow talk or microphone noise suppression enabled?

Microphone suppression shouldn't affect your phone's earspeaker, right? I have tried all the suggested solutions on the various threads, but nothing is working. This seems to be a fairly common problem, and it seems to be software related.

It could be related,practically it reduces background noise during call.You also tried a software repair?

I reinstalled the software through the PC Companion and still had the problem. When I press on the back of the phone where the camera is or where the flap comes up for the headphones it works.

Would be good to know the best way of going about getting it repaired?

Hi,

I am also facing same problem. When I get a call, I can't hear what person is talking but other person can hear me properly. I need to switch on speaker every time. This has started happening after I upgreated to latest os upgread 4.4.2.

Is this hardware problem? Is there any fix for this? Can someone plz help me here?

I already test my internal speaker with diagnostic app but the same problem come to me when somebody call me i cant hear anything ? Someone please help me ?

Hi..

i have been experiencing this problem too.

1 day after getting it back from warranty services i lost sound call unless on speaker.

is there any quick fix i can do by myself?

THE THING IS....i'm in indonesia & in here the sony service center is outstandingly terrible.

3 month work in warranty services for replacing board...

without any update from the service center.

and without any reply for my email asking for update.

so getting my phone to the service center is really the last option for me now.

I had the similar issue with my Xperia Z. Got the phone replaced at the repair center and its working perfectly from last 7 months.

You should better reset your phone and if its not the hardware problem it will work...

I have same problem with my z3, tried factory reset but didn't help.

I'm using it last 2 months.

It's really annoying to face this. If possible I would like to give it back and buy higher model like z+ or z5.

now my wife has just reported this problem to me with her z3 mini.i cant hear she kept saying I cant hear. Every time I tried it I had no problem. it turned out if she did not have the ear piece part exactly in the middle of her ear you could not hear the caller.with the z1 full size anywhere close to the ear was good enough to hear.
