Z3 mic not working while talking on speaker

Ive just noticed this issue on my month old z3. People can hear me fine if i talk using the earpiece, but the moment i switch to speaker, my voice sounds distant, or I cant be heard at all. Ive tried factory reset, but no luck.

Check if you have microphone noise suppression or slow talk enabled.

It's normal , i have used many phones and they have issues like this. I had to speak louder

You could try ticking Speaker voice enhancement under Settings > Call settings. If this doesn't help then try running a Software Repair your handset. You'll need to download the PC Companion software and install it on your PC. Once installed, you can back up most of your data before running the repair as the repair will delete everything.

Note: Exactly what contents will be backed up may differ depending on phone model.

To back up your phone using PC Companion
1. Go to Support to install PC Companion on a Windows computer.
2. When installed, start PC Companion on the computer.
3. Connect your phone to the computer using a USB cable.
4. Click Start under Backup & Restore.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Running the software repair

Note: The phone needs to be powered off during this part of the process

1. Install and open PC Companion then select Support Zone.

2. Phone Software Update.

3. Start.

4. Repair Phone

5. Continue

6. Accept data removal

7. Next

8. Wait for prepare

9. Select Phone

10. Follow the connection steps

The speakerphone function is terrible on this model. I'm on my 2nd Z3 - both have performed very poorly in this area.

I'm told no one else is having this issue. Good luck with Sony.

It doesnt matter if my face is sticking to the mic itself, people cant hear me properly, if at all.

I have the exact same issue, Sony will only respond saying we are looking into it and bla bla bla. It's a known issue just like the over heating issues when recording. Sony fixt ur issues with an update and take these problems seriously.

I have a similar issue on my Z3:

When I start a phone call with the speakerphone active the mic works fine but if I turn off the speaker phone on the same call the microphone goes to mute, therefore I have to turn on the speaker phone again to make the microphone work again. However if I start the call with the speaker phone off the mic works fine even if I turn on the speaker phone and turn it back off.

This issue was noticed after the update to 5.1.1

INSANE, this bug has been driving me nuts today. also updated to 5.1.1 and now cannot use the phone. I dial a lot switching to speakerphone and when people pick up want to go back to normal. It mutes the mic and I am forced to speak via speakerphone. This has NOTHING to do with any of the call feature settings (slow talking etc.) Please keep us updated on this.

That makes three of us. Never had any problems switching between speakerphone until the latest Sony update 5.1.1 now as soon as I go to speakerphone no one can hear me, even after switching on back off I stay silenced which some would argue is a godsend 😉 I have to hang up and redial so they can hear me again.

Anyone know if there is an easy way to remove the update until they fix it?

I can't be heard when I TRY to phone people by either the normal way or on speaker phone! But I can hear them.... 😮

I am having this issue too, no one can hear me, I tried through the hands free head set and speaker but still no one can hear me!! Going to be calling Three tomorrow but by the sound of it looks like nothing will be done!

Same issue here.

When loudspeaker is on, nobody can hear me, even when i turn it off and on and off vice versa.

I just throw out my older phone just to get rid of stupid issues like this and get this Sony which claimed to be the king model in Turkey.

There is also the yellowish cloud bottom of the screen problem and heating problem too, it's like the glass is gonna melt.

F.ck the king!

note: anyone knows if there's a way to roll-back to kitkat, or any better version in this very smart and capable(!) phone?

This issue is most likely cause when another application is using the mic at the same time when you issue the call. It can be the sound recorder, screen recorder, skype, ok google detection, etc., that's why a restart should fix the problem.

If you want to make sure that your problem is caused by an app, restart into Safe Mode and test if the problem is still there:

I had this issue but discovered that is was caused when AutoCallRecorder (third party app) was running.

To reproduce the steps

Make a call

Switch to speaker during call

Recipient can still hear me

Switch to earpiece during call

Caller can no longer hear me.

When AutoCallRecorder is not enabled the problem does not manifest.

It may also be caused if "Ok Google" is enabled all the time as it seems on this model the Mic can only be used exclusively.

While i am calling and put the speaker on it works fine but as soon as i switch off the speaker and try to talk the person on the other end can't hear me.
But if i talk througout the call via the headset earpiece the microphone works fine.
Can someone help me with this??
