Hey guys, I recently just purchased the Z5 on Black Friday and starting last night I've been experiencing a problem related to my microphone in that it isn't working. No one can hear me during calls or when you record videos.

I checked to see if there was microphone suppression settings but unfortunately there isn't any.

I want to see if I can fix it first before taking it in just because my old phone broke on Halloween and I went an entire month without a phone up until j got this one and so I'm trying to avoid letting it go.

Thanks in advance.

I'm having the same problem. How come when I'm on a call and switch to speaker phone my mic works. Is there an independent mic when on speaker phone? I called SONY today and they told me to send in the phone and they'll have a look at it and send it back to me in 14 days...
Nonsense... I think I'll post this on Twitter/Facebook. Buyer beware...

if it does work in Safemode then it is likely third party, have a look through any new apps since the issue started and try removing it.

I think it's a software issue and I started experiencing it when I upgraded to Android 6.0. I also own a Z1 and it has the same problem with the same Android. This problem is really annoying, Sony, when do you think you can fix it?

Sorry to hijack the post, not sure how this works. What do you do if it still doesn't work in safe mode??? I've recently had the screen replaced. It worked when I first got it back and the speaker has stopped working after I plugged in wired headphones. Tried companion repair, factory reset turning off google voice, standing on my head repeating "Sony I good" over and over and nothing works. Doesn't work in diagnostics either 😡 sort again

I have the same issue, callers can hardly hear me on my Z5 Compact. Works fine on external speaker and bluetooth, but not when on normal microphone. Pretty much made my phone un-usable for taking or making calls now. Been a Sony user for a while, from Xperia S, Z1 and now Z5 Compact, this is the first one that has such a major issue. Disappointing that nothing has been done yet, anyone had any updates on this lately ?

Suffering from the same problem: the voice is transmitted to calling side weak and subdued.

I noticed that the bad microphone performance is related to protective case.

When the case is removed the voice is heard clear and loud. Seems silicone protective case influences the mic.

Hi,

I had this problem on a used phone I bought. I tried all sorts of things, as suggest on various forums, and in the end it turned out to be that the small microphone hole at the bottom of the phone had some debris in it. I cleaned it (very carefully) with a small pointed implement and blew in compreseed air. Volume levels came back to normal straight away.
