Okay. Soo. I have a sony vaio laptop model PCG-1111w / VPCS135FG. It runs on windows7. This problem happened two days ago and i don't know what to anymore. You see, whenever i turn on the laptop, it proceeds to this black options screen where the options "start windows normally" and "launch startup repair" are seen.

Whenever i choose to start windiws normally, it boots up then when it gets to the windows logo, it'll suddenly turn to a blue screen that'll disappear in seconds. After that, it'll go back to the options screen. As for the launch start repair (which was recommended by the laptop), it'll scan for a few minutes before a popup window saying "couldn't repair laptop automatically" (or something like that) appears. I tried the startup repair a few times but it always says the same thing - that it cannot repair thr laptop.

I tried doing the f8 safemode thing but it ends up back to thr black options screen. I tried the system restore but it says that i have no restore points. I can't find the recovery disk thing others are saying nor the windows cd.

I don't know what to do. I need all the files in the laptop so i can't do the reformat thing (that'll be my last resort if nothing works).

Please help.

P.S. My vaio has the assist button. Would that help me in anyway? Pleaseplease answer.

I don't know If someone asked this in this forum already as i'm new. Thanks in advance.

Message was edited by: Sadisticsoldier

Hi Sadisticsoldier and welcome.

This looks like a model sold in the Sony Asia-Pacific Region. Is it still within Warranty? Have a look at the Support Pages for your model here for any hints: -

http://www.sony-asia.com/support/product/VPCS135FG

It sounds like System Files have become corrupted or your hard disc has been damaged. Go into the BIOS screens by tapping F2 during startup. Is the hard drive still recognised?

The fact that the system cannot run the Repair option is worrying as this implies it is more than a software issue.

I presume you have not made a set of Recovery Discs? You can still Recover your Vaio back to factory settings using the 'Assist' button of by tapping F10 during startup.

As the data on the hard drive is important to you, try all repair options first: -

1. Turn off the automatic reboot so you can read the full message on the blue screen - this should give further details of the fault. You can do this from the Advanced Boot Options screen: -

http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/ss/disable-auto-restart-windows-7.htm

2. Try running the Repair from an external bootable disc. Either you can try to borrow a Windows 7 HP Installation Disc or you can make a Repair Disc on another Windows 7 computer: -

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Create-a-system-repair-disc

or download a Repair Disc from here: -

http://neosmart.net/blog/2009/windows-7-system-repair-discs/

3. If you cannot repair the system the you need to think about a Recovery to Factory Settings but you will lose all your data. You could try removing the hard drive and putting it in a USB Caddy and see if you can access your data on another computer. This will see how damaged the drive is. You will need one of these: -

http://www.amazon.co.uk/drive-Enclosure-laptop-Caddy-Laptop/dp/B003RIL0EM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1338029913&sr=8-1
