2015 Bravia Android TV Issues

I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!

1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435

2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.

3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360

4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.

As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.

Well this is interesting, I had the EU firmware on my set. However when it updated it put the UK version back on. I can tell as I now have Youview again. Netflix working ok for me, however I am doing a factory reset like I have done for all firmware updates. Will see if it works once back up and running.

Yes, it looks to see where it thinks you are, based on the IP address you appear to present, and gives you the release for there.

And it doesn't care where you are really, or what you had before. All releases are full releases - no incrementals or diffs - which is why they take so long, and why Sony don't need to care what you had before.

YouView Superuser, but not an employee of YouView, nor retained by them for this purpose. It's purely me speaking

Just to confirm that I have had no problems with the TV (55W755C) after update, including netflix. Still interested to hear from anyone who can get DD5.1 pass through from anything except netflix and Freeview though...?

No problems for me either.  Did the upgrade to the UK firmware last night around 8pm, no issues at all thus far, noting a quick test of Netflix.

I am curious as to the release notes for this FW upgrade, however.  Judging by their absence I'm guessing this is just a bug-fix/maintenance release?  Even so it would be good to know what has actually been fixed this time.

So there's a reasonable chance the latest firmware update (missing release notes) will break the Netflix app?

I just can't understand how Sony are still getting this so wrong.

Just updated mine as well (April 12th UK version).

Netflix is working fine, and I now get 5.1 Dolby Digital on Google Play films (those rare films that do have 5.1 available).

I know google play films use the HE-AAC format for the 5.1 sound, so the TV must be converting the audio from HE-AAC into DD 5.1 on the fly.

Tested this via the ARC output only. Couldn't test the optical out as I don't have an optical cable with me.

Also I've yet to test amazon prime for 5.1.

Updated my 55X8509C yestetrday evening with no problem. Everything still working although I did take the precaution of removing my USB stick that I use for recording. Put it back after the update and all is good.

Guess I am one of the lucky ones that fall into the "DON'T UNDERSTAND" category.
