What doesn't work:
1. When using Quicktime Player on the Mac and selecting to airplay to the Sony TV using QuickTime Player, the vide window says "This video is playing on "Sony TV" and the TV switches to the Airplay input window, as expected. However, the playbar isn't moving and no video (nor audio) is displayed.
What does work:
1. Airplay from my iPhone works without issues.
2. Airplay my entire desktop from the Mac also works (but with the usual lag that makes movie watching less than ideal).
Is this a known bug? Can someone reproduce it?
Quicktime on the Mac after selecting to Airplay. Playbar is not moving. Play/Pause does nothing.
Hi @onlyindisturbia9 The starting point for any request for help, is the full model number of your TV, it will start with KD, XR or K.
This issue could be related to codec compatibility or how QuickTime Player handles AirPlay with your Sony TV. Since AirPlay works fine from your iPhone and for screen mirroring, the problem is likely with how your Mac encodes the video for AirPlay.
To fix this, try converting the video to a more AirPlay-friendly format, such as MP4 encoded in H.264, using tools like HandBrake. Alternatively, use a third-party media player like VLC or Elmedia Video Player, which often handles AirPlay better than QuickTime in similar scenarios. If the issue persists, make sure your macOS and TV firmware are up to date, as updates can resolve compatibility issues.
