Is it possible to timer record channels that I am not watching live; eg. recording an ITV programme whist watching BBC - followed instructions and set timer recording but it did not record. I have followed help/ instructions and registered / formatted HDD device so it is recognised etc. When I tested now record option it worked OK on the station being watched so I know the initial set up was done successfully. Sony help suggests some programmes not able to record as they are not authorised and copy protected but how do I discover what programmes are copy protected. This has not been a problem with DVD player /recorder when used with previous model Sony TV.
The TV only has one tuner so that would mean you are only able to record the TV programme you are watching.
In order to record programmes other than the programme you are watching the TV would need more than one tuner, like your DVD player/ recorder has (some more expensive Sony TVs have two tuners).
However you could try watching one programme and recording another that is broadcast over the same multiplex.
For example all HD channels are broadcast over the one multiplex.
Set up a recording on ITV HD and see if you can watch a programme on BBC1 HD at the same time.
All channels are broadcast over 5 multiplexes, you would need to find which transmitter you receive from.
Take a note of the multiplex numbers it broadcasts on and then discover the channels each multiplex provides.
Though the recording feature on the TV sounds good it is not very sophisticated and recording TV is much better done on a third party recording device such as your DVD player/ recorder, or another device such as a PVR from Humax, Panasonic or Manhattan which have multiple tuners.
