Another year, another time for reflection and self-improvement in the form of New Year’s resolutions: you know, those promises you make to yourself that are usually forgotten about by the end of January?
But this year we’re on a mission to think about resolutions differently. We’re always pledging to quit our bad habits - eating too much fast food, taking the bus to work instead of walking, drinking orange juice straight from the carton - but we want also want people to do and discover more in 2015; to explore, adventure and learn new things.
Over the whole of January, we’ll be speaking to some inspiring figures from the world of audio, film, photography and sports about their lives as well as how and why they became infatuated with what began as a mere hobby.
We’ll be chatting to Eric Kingdon, Senior Technical Marketing Manager and all-round audio extraordinaire for Sony Europe, about his love for music and all things Hi-Fi-related. What made a man who earned an impressive degree in biochemistry pack it all in to work as a salesman in a Hi-Fi shop? He also talks us through his incredibly rare equipment - including a hand-made Sony Espirit sound system that was flown in from the headquarters in Tokyo - as well as his rather unconventional ways of storing it all...
For those that need some reassurance before going out and investing in a new camera, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for our interview with Gavin Evans, an acclaimed photographer who's worked with the likes of David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Gary Oldman and many more. We ask him what it’s like to be recognised for his own photography, and how he feels when he knows he’s captured that perfect shot.
We’re sure there are plenty of you thinking about exercising more this year, and if so then you should take a note from Gemma Bardsley, who went from enjoying casual running to competing in the London Marathon each year. Her enthusiasm led to the creation of Beats Per Mile, a website she designed that tracked her marathon progress via GPS, displayed how many calories she’d burnt and even showed you what she was listening to while she ran. In our interview, we discuss why Gemma sees music as such a vital part of her running experience.
With all this and more lined up for January, consider 2015 the year that we help you do and discover more.
