strdn1080 audio problem.   In surround sound mode thru my sony bluray player, the middle speaker  (audio) gradually drops in volume.  Had new internal boards replaced under warranty, but problem still remains. Wondering is the blueray player or my  3 yr old samsung tv affecting it someway.  All cables are top notch. So are speakers. I am at my wits end and seriously thinking of dumping it  for something else as I am a serious movie buff. Will replace before the long nights set in.    HELP  PLEASE    ANYONE.

Firstly, how is it wired?

As you think the TV could be affecting it, I presume that you have the BluRay player going into the TV, and then out by ARC to the amp? As otherwise, the TV couldn’t be coming into it.

So why not try the BluRay player plugged into the amp? And if the centre still drops, restart the BluRay disc, and once it is running, disconnect the TV so things are absolutely audio only, and see if it still happens.

But to separate amp and BluRay player as possible causes of the problem, you need some other source (ideally another BluRay player borrowed from friends or family), and then to see if the problem stays with the amp, or goes with your BluRay player.

Thank you for your reply.  But i have been down that road before.  Bluray has always been wired into AV. NEVER directly to tv..  Even a friends Blu ray player brings the same results after 10  to 20 mins of watching a movie.

Any other suggestions welcome.

Absent something from the Samsung exerting a malign influence on the amp down the ARC line, which you could eliminate as a possibility as per my posting above, or the unlikely possibility that you have only ever been testing with one movie and the disc is faulty, by what you have described, you have isolated the issue to the amp.

So while this may be unwelcome and not what you want to hear, I don’t know what other suggestions there could be?

Thanks for your reply.  I really do appreciate it.

Tried several blue ray discs. no joy.

Only 2 cables going into tv. coaxial for ariel and hdmi from Sony blueray. Took out coaxial....no joy.

Am afraid its the AV.    Cant think of anything else..... other than to go shopping

Thanks again.

See how long you can bear to hang on, as that is a very highly regarded amp, your issue aside, but it is very long in the tooth, and Sony must surely be contemplating a replacement soon. (Not that I have any inside information, alas).

Failing that, my money is on the Denon X2700H.

I'm pretty sure Sony has a repair warranty in place, so if the repair or service didn't fix the issue, you can just reach out and have it fixed, they will probably ask for the engineer report though, so best keep that handy.

I can't think of anything else myself and I also pretty much agree 100% with @royabrown2, especially when it comes to a new replacement, it's been ages since the last amp and they've already released headphones for every line and also new soundbars and home cinema kits.

Hope this helps!
