Can't restore from old Backup

Hi

I backed up my phone to SD card immediately before doing a factory reset. I can't now restore from that backup, though I can see the files just fine on the SD card, both on its own and via the phone. How do I either make the phone see the files or read my contact info off some other way?

Thank you

What did you used to create the backup?

I used the internal "create backup" option from the menus off settings.

By any chance, when you performed a factory reset, did you updated the phone to a new android version?

I'm going to say "not deliberately", but it's possible it's currently on an older version than it was, or quietly updated itself.

I can see how that would wreck the backup, but is there another way it can be read?

If your phone it's currently on a different version of Android as when you created the backup, you won't be able to restore it.

What are you trying to restore? which files do you see?

I can see a file in "Sony BnR" when looking at the SD card on a computer. What I really want from it is my contacts.

I'm not sure if you can restore it, but I'm almost certain that other users have posted something like that, my suggestion will be to check the whole forum with those keywords and also the XDA forum.
