Error 501 while updating YouTube

I have had a problem with Youtube which stopped after a minute or two. Message was not connection to server lost. Cannot remember exact words but Touch to Retry appeared at end of message. I have been onto Google Forum and followed some suggestions like change date and untick Auto date and time. Restart and clear youtube cache. Also did a Force Stop. Restarted and tried to update youtube but received the error 501.

Have searched this forum but found no sollutions. Is this a problem for Google or Sony? as there seems to bo no sollution.

Have only had this phone since the 1st October 2015.

Maybe someone from Sony could provide the answer to fix the problem.

Hi jainparth94, I had this problem with my M4. I have just updated the M4 to Android 6.0.1 after I received a message stating that the update is available. Because of the small memory I had to un-install a number of apps to get the required space for the update. Once the update was installed I had updates for apps including Youtube. Youtube updated without a problem.

So if you are still having the problem with youtube, and have not updated the software to 6.0.1, do what I did and your problem will be solved.

That will be a Google issue but try this

settings > apps > all > look for all google apps and services > clear data on them all > restart the phone > check again.

How slow/fast is your wifi and/or data?

Hi apologies for delay in replying. I tried all that but the latest update gave me the same message, i.e. Cannot update Youtube/error 501.

Now when I get the notice to update youtube I ignore it. I am however able to use youtube without the updates and appear to have no further problems.

Regards

You might want to contact Google directly, you could also remove all the updates on google apps and also remove the Gmail account > restart the phone > add the account > update the apps

The easiest was to backup the phone, to repair it using PCC and restore apps.

By the way. Each time you get error 501, the storage room of your phone is reduced by the size of the download. You can check if numbers in storage add up.

Thanks for your info. The initial problem was Youtube not connecting to the server. That problem seams to have been corrected. I am still unable to update youtube dispite backing up and restore. I will just leave it for now maybe Google/Android will issue an update to correct the problem.

Hi jeevanjd, cannot help you with the downloads from Google. However my youtube app cannot update. Always get an error, so I just ignore the update message and continue. Youtube still plays without a hitch. One day maybe Google will read these messages (hopefully) and provide a fix for the problem. I also have the Xperia Z5, which I won on the Sony James Bond Spygames website. I have no problems with youtube playing or updating with that phone. Initially youtube on the M4 Aqua, did the same as your phone, but somehow it fixed itself except for updating.

Read my post I received from zyxxyz and follow his suggestions. It may just work for you.

Clear Cache, updates and data. I did it several times, because every time I clear the data, cache appear. Just press clear cache and data buttons, until nothing appears. (the button becomes grey). Turn Off the phone , in my case I wait 2 minutes. Turn back it on, and install the update. It works for me.
