No Performance Assistant on Xperia S ICS?

Okay this is something I was expecting from the update.

Sony delivered in every aspect of the ICS update, and I really find the Face Unlock funny and awkward everytime I unlock my phone (but it worked rather well) so I had to settle for the usual slide unlock option.  Just about every update mentioned is there and jeez, I love the new Gallery!  What seems to be missing though is the Performance Assistant.  That's a nifty piece of help to get rid of default bloatwares on the phones but I didn't see it.  I still can't see it.  I lost nothing but my settings but other than that, my phone is just sexier than ever.  I really feel sorry for those guys opting for other manufacturer's phone.

So there's my first question:  Is Performance Assistant something that I should expect from this upgrade?  Because it's nowhere to be seen.

Second question, since I got excited and no longer waited for the update for my SI number, I followed the steps as outlined by XperiaBlog.net.  With the steps, they mentioned that there is no need to root the phone (whatever that means) or unlock the bootloader.  But I did use the flashtool.  Does that mean my warranty could be voided?

Cheers!

read this regarding warranty

From sony mobile developers

http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions

Warning! If you perform this step, you will unlock the boot loader. This may void your warranty and/or any warranty from your operator. If you still want to unlock the boot loader of your phone, enter fastboot.exe -i 0x0fce oem unlock 0xKEY, where KEY is the unlock boot loader key you got in the beginning of this instruction. The boot loader should now be successfully unlocked.

Warranty Document

Nor does this warranty cover any

failure of the Product due to accident, software or hardware

modification or adjustment, acts of God or damage resulting

from liquid

in other words it "could" void your warranty

My take on the warranty is as follow, don't quote me on this: if you root or flash or unlock the bootloader and something damage your phone because of that, then the warranty will be voided otherwise it shouldn't affect the warranty. but that's my take on it.

So there really is no Performance Assistant?

The thing is when I do it the way you have mentioned, up comes a warning saying that other apps maybe affected.  At least with the Performance Assistant, it does come up with a list of softwares that is okay to remove. I'm worried about the dependencies.

Also, for my second question, I flashed my phone using the Flashtool but didn't have to unlock the bootloader.  Did I void my warranty?

Thank you for the warranty answer.  I understand better now.  Nice to know nothing happened to my phone after flashing.

I guess "no Performance Assistant" on the Xperia ICS is the answer to my first question.  It's not even mentioned on the new features section of the official blog announcement.

That aside, my phone's smooth as silk.  Really happy about the upgrade!

I did try those just as you've mentioned.  I added a widget and it appeared quite fast.  No lag there, for certain.  The lags I experienced were during the first time I switched it back on after the upgrade.  But when everything is settled in, no lags whatsoever.  Even Temple Run: Brave no longer has any lags.  Back in GB, whenever the character is collecting coins, it lags.  Now, it runs smoothly.

I also tried the Album app > Maps... Looked and loaded quite fine too.  Since I don't geotag, it just loaded the map, so it probably has something to do with that.

Few things I've noticed:

  • The Movies app is actually named Films
  • I can't find how I can resize the widgets, since they mentioned it is now resizable
  • My Gallery is now named Albums

Did you have to flash yours? Or is it the one you got off of PCC or SUS?

9,000?!  That must be a hundred pictures a day since release! Hehehe... Well then that must be why.  I only have 450. Considering the size of the pictures, it could probably take a toll on the processor.  How long does it take to finally load them all on your Gallery?
