Demo mode loop help

41A58E80-DDE8-490A-83E7-4E4B546B77CF.jpeg

My elderly parents tv was switched off at the power yesterday and when it came back on they got this message. The Bravia tv is about 10 years old and they can’t find the model number - their sight isn’t great. We don’t live near and I need help in resolving this issue ASAP. Due to lockdown and their ages no one can go into their home to help. Has anyone an idea? We have switched it on and off again in case it resolved it and it hasn’t. The remote doesn’t seem to move the sections showing either.

Have you tried the steps in this article by Sony?

My 2009 Sony KDL40W5500 keeps reverting to demo mode too. I have uploaded the current software for this model from your site, and done a factory re-set multiple times, but the problem keeps coming back. Started a month ago intermittently and now TV won't run for more than an hour after a reset before going into demo mode. The remote (fresh batteries) and side button controls do not work when the fault develops and there is also a continuously flashing green LED at these times. Your article does not address my problem.  What if any fix is there for this please?

Did you try to disconnect all external devices and try the steps in the article using the remote? Also, did you try to disconnect the TV from the mains for a few minutes? After the factory reset do you set the TV as a home location as shown in the link here https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/articles/00157755

Thank you for your reply.  Yes, I have done all of this.  In addition I have moved the TV to another location and connected it to different inputs (aerial and HDMI Satellite) and performed another factory reset.  Even on Satellite input the Demo mode loop starts up after a few minutes and then persists.  If I press I (info) on the remote, this cancels it for a minute or so, but it always comes back.  There is clearly a fault.  Is there any other reset available (combination code on the side buttons for example) that would fix this?  Or will Sony be updating the firmware as I see others have the same issue with kit of the same age.  Or can you identify a faulty component that could be replaced?  Ten years seems a very short lifetime for a Sony Bravia TV in domestic usage.

maybe check with an engineer if it can be repaired? Sony has a locator tool you can use;
UK locator: https://locator.sony/en_GB/servicecenters and one for Ireland: https://locator.sony/en_IE/servicecenters

That doesn't seem to be very good advice!  If Sony can't diagnose the issue or point to a potential faulty part, how is a local engineer going to do better?

Hey PhilB7, from what I see on the thread you've tried everything that can be done on the TV, if it's faulty, Sony engineers should know how to solve the issue. Hope you get it sorted ^^
