How to add USB recording for KDL-42W705B?

Hello,

I have the KDL-42W705B TV and when trying to watched programs via the Apps, such as BBC iPlayer, it sometimes says I need to add a storage or recording device to the TV (I think that is what it said).

What does this mean exactly and what sort of device can I add to the TV?
