KDL40EX403 Linkstation Live NAS There are no items to display

I have recently got hold of a Buffalo Linkstation Live 500GB and have it connected to my BT Home Hub2 routerw which is then connected to my Bravia KDL40EX403. The TV can see the Linkstation but when I browse to the server on the XMB and then to the folders all I see is the message "There are no items to display". I Know there is music and photos in the share folder on the Linkstation so i am puzzled that I cannot see them. Can anyone help me out with this ? (I have updated the firmware on the Linkstation to the latest version, the TV is upto date with its software too).

1) the files have to be one of the very very few formats Sony reads - so .jpg for photos, .mp3 for music

2) despite that the XMB will list music/photos/movies under each of the main headings, you can only see photos if you approach via the photos heading etc.

My 40EX043 works OK with my WD World Book NAS, but it is a pretty restrictive system. All my music is ripped to .wma, so no music. Most of my photos are in a raw format - OK, I suppose that would be expecting a bit much (but when did customer delight go out of fashion?). The logos on the box also promissed DLNA and DivX - they failed to point out it won't do DivX over DLNA however - that is a bit of a con really.

They con themselves in the end - I just talked my brother-in-law out of buying one.

Thanks for the info.

I noted previously that only the Music part of the bar will find music files, (ie browse to music then to video won't find video). Its not that.

I have just checked and the music on the Linkstation is MP3 format and the photos are jpeg.

I don't know if it the Linkstation that is preventing the file access or the TV.

I have installed Mezzmo on my laptop and it works perfectly with the TV (no matter what the file format). That arrangement defeats the purpose of having a NAS on the network though, so no solution there.

what media server does the Linkstation use? My WD NAS runs Twonky 5.1.9. I can log in and see which clients Twonky is serving, and what it thinks they are. Occasionally it misidentifies a client and lists it as 'generic', in which case I can reselect the correct profile for the client.

An update to my posting.

I appear to have solved my problem, and it appears I may have to take the hit for this one.

I had previously updated the firmware on my Linkstation Live media server to what I thought was the latest version of the firmware. What I had not realised is that it was the latest version on the Buffalo US site (2.10). On the European site there is a different latest version (2.11). I installed this version (note that for some reason I had to switch off the wireless capability of my laptop and have the server cabled directly to the laptop) in order to get the updater to run. The updater ran, but crashed. I powered down and on again and checked the firmware version to see that it was indeed 2.11. I hooked it up to my router, tried the tv and badda boom it worked !

Buffalo could be a lot cleaer in their driver versions to avoid this issue.

Anyway, sorted. Now all I have are some file compatability issues that are limitations of the TV.
