PC display too big for Bravia KDL-24W605A

Connected my Windows 7 PC to my Bravia TV (via HDMI) but the display from the PC is bigger than the TV screen - text and icons are being cut off the edges.

How do I go about reducing the size of the generated display from the PC?

Have looked at display settings in the Windows 7 Control Panel and the Sony TV has been identified, resolution is default, display set to 100%.

Have you tried reducing the resolution when connected?  If so, what resolution are you running at?
