Please help, i have recently purchased a HT As5 speaker system

Hi i have recently purchased this speaker system (HTAS5) and have followed instructions but cannot get the speakers to play the sound from TV.  I have run a test and the speakers work and i have connected the TV direct to the subwoofer with a HDMI cable, however, there is no sound.  I have played about with the TV setting but have got no-where.  in the end i connected the PS3 to the speakers with my HDMI cable and i could hear the PS3 set-up noise so this was working.  I am buying another HDMI cable but surely i can connect the TV to the speakers and they should work anyway? please help

I see You say You played with TV settings but did You make manu-settings-sound-speakers-audio system.

Chack allso connection from audio system to TV.

You haven't said what TV you've got, but from what you've described I'm guessing it doesn't support ARC (Audio Return Channel) on its HDMI sockets.

The TV will probably have an optical audio out socket on the back though.  If so, in addition to the HDMI cable from the HTA-S5 to TV, you'll need to connect an optical cable from TV to the HTA-S5 optical input and select a Dolby ProLogic II sound field to get the TV sound across all 6 speakers.
