I bought a kdl-40ex503 in December 2010 from Sony Centre. Brought it home connected it all up and the internet was working fine. I was able to watch iplayer and LoveFilm 'til about 6 weeks ago when it suddenly stopped working!
I searched some of the forums and tried some of the suggestions such as resoring factory settings on the tv, disabling the security on the router, downloading latest firmware, etc. I called the Sony centre and they were't able to help. I called the Sony Support Line and they took me through the procedures I had already followed myself which didn't work. The support centre said it might be a fault with my router and to check. So i rang Netgear support who were no help.
I seem to be able to get iplayer on my Wii so I don't think it's my router.
When I check the netwrok settings the tv seems to allocate a different IP address to the computer. Someone suggested that the router is no longer recognising the tv, but I'm not sure how to fix that.
I'm not too computer savvy and I don't often understand the language in these forums so could really do with a dummies guide to how to try to resolve this problem before I drive myself insane!!!
Can anyone help please?
Hi I would advise you check the IP given to the TV by your router is listed on the router and ensure it is not being blocked, there would be a IP range and Mac allow list on most routers, need to check Netgear forums on how to do this, also try to ping the TV IP from your PC as follows, to check it is working;
1. Check the local area network connection details on a PC or Laptop on the network for reference.-
a. First we need obtain the following details from a PC/Laptop already running on the home network.
i. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then press ENTER
ii. At the command prompt, type ipconfig, and then press ENTER. This command displays your computer's DNS suffix, IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway, as below
2. Now we have the information about the network we can check to see if the TV has been given the correct information by the router;
a. Press the Home button
b. Go to settings and Network Set-up
c. Select View Network Status
d. We can not check the TV connection details against those for the network, all figures should match, except the last 3 on the IP Address, example IP Address 192.168.0.2 sequential)
e. If any of the other figures are different, then something has gone wrong when the TV connected to the router and it would be best to reset and start again, Jump to step 3 below, however if all is correct please remember the following;
i. IP Address ie 192.168.0.12 and go to step 5 below
3. First thing is to return the TV to factory defaults.
a. Go to Home
b. System Settings then General Set-up
c. Select Factory Settings, once complete turn the TV off at the mains.
4. Now we need to reset the Network Router.
a. This can be done by pressing a reset button or turning off at the mains.
5. TV are correct we can now ping the TV to see if it responds;
i. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then press ENTER
ii. At the command prompt, type ping (IP address from the TV(example 192.168.0.12)), and then press ENTER. This command displays the amount of time to get a response, as long at it recieves one then there is no fault.
Thanks for your advice. I have tried these steps a few times over the last few weeks and they haven't worked. I have checked the network set up for the tv and the IP address assigned to the tv is 169.254.69.163 which is completely different to the one for the router (192.168.50.2). I'm not sure whether this indicates a problem with my router or my tv???
I've tried manually inputting the IP address into the tv but to be honest I'm not really sure whether I'm doing it correctly as it asks for so much other info and I'm not sure what's meant to be the same and what's meant to be different.
Starting to feel like I'm being left behind by advanced technology!!!!
Hi,
It looks like your TV has either stopped requesting IP addresses or your router has stopped supplying IP addresses. Try rebooting your router and if that fails then try your TV?
Good luck
As per above - and also try a factory reset and make sure your firmware is up to date.
Thanks
interesting for me, thanks
Thanks for all the replies so far, please keep them coming as I haven't yet solved this problem!
I've tried all of the things listed below so far and none have worked.....
I have done a factory reset several times.
I've unplugged the router several times.
I've downloaded latest firmware and tried to install on the tv and the tv told me it already had that latest version of firmware.
I've tried manually inputting an IP address into the tv.
I've disabled the security and tried to reconnect.
Have I tried everything or are there more options???
Will there be something on my computer that will tell me what devices my router recognises so that I can check whether my tv is listed??
Does this sound like a router problem or a tv problem? (Given that the router is allowing my computer to connect to the internet and my Wii to connect to the internet.........)
Have experienced the same problem over the last six months but due to lack of time have lived without internet connection. I too have unsuccessfully tried all the suggested fixes so wonder what the final solution was?
