I have had a problem with getting the above laptop repaired after having only had it for 7 months; it was a couple of cm wide line down the right hand side of the screen. The reduced size screen also had a problem with a split image in the middle which caused the left hand side of the split to overlap the right hand side of the split so that that for example if the name John Smith was across the middle of the screen this would come out as something like Johith, even if the typing had been entered correctly. I did not know how to rectify this fault myself so I took it into a local computer shop. I was in very short order phoned back to tell me that it could be repaired in one week but that the part would cost £170. I therefore reclaimed the computer and went to John Lewis from whom I had purchased the laptop. They said they would send it to the manufacturers Sony and they issued me with a receipt which stated that they would contact me within 28 but that most repairs were quicker. However, after the 28 days had elapsed and I had heard nothing, I contacted the shop and enquired as to the position. They contacted Sony who informed them there was a delay in that the part had to be obtained from the manufacturers but this could take another 30 days from the date of that phone call. After that other 30 days had elapsed, I enquired into it again and this time I was kept on the phone for an extra ordinarily long time by the technical support department of John Lewis, while they went on to Sony to make enquiries about the repair. Still no luck though. Just told to wait a further length of time. I waited the suggested length o f time but was not contacted by Sony. I therefore contacted Sony directly and asked what the position was they said there was still no progress but that they had decided to make a refund of the purchase price and would I give details by email of the purchase and also bank details so that the money could be paid into my bank. It came about at some point that a date of 21st January was given as the date the refund was to be made, although I do not see why that further delay was necessary. That date came and went without any refund having been made into my bank account. That was4 day ago and it is obvious to me that Sony have no intention of making a refund despite their promises. I have contacted the Consumer Affairs Dept. of Citizens Advice and they informed me to contact the shop I purchased the laptop from and state that the laptop was not of a saleable quality when purchased and request a replacement with the same or an equivalent product. I contacted John Lewis yesterday and, guess what; the person who normally deals with these enquiries is on holiday. You couldn't make it up, could you?!
