call dropping when in car

hi,

can anyone help???

I havea Z1 compact which I connect (via usb cable) to my car (BMW 4 series) for phone calls .  I do this so that I can charge the phone whilst driving.

However the phone does two truely annoying things (which maybe related):

1)  It randomly drops calls, claiming that there is no network (I know there is network). I then have to acknowledge the 'no network message' on the screen, wait 10-15 secs and then re-dial my contact.  This fault occurs every 5 to 20 mins. v v annoying!

2) during call the phone periodically gives a two tone beep (Ican shear it, but my callers cannot).  There's a pop-up message at the top of the screen asking me if I want to connect to a PC; which I don't , as phone is connected to my car, not a PC.

The beep is annoying, but I also think this issue may be triggering the call dropping.

HELLLLLLLLP!!!!!

What can i do (other swear loudly and than switch brand of phone!) ???

Just to be clear, this only happen while using your car's bluetooth to make calls?

Hi Uliwooly,

Yes.  When I talk using an ear piece & mic , or just the handset, the calls don't drop.

I think it's something to do with the phone incessently trying to connect to the car as a PC, as I can hear/see this attempted connection (it beeps) just before the calls drop.

But I guess a bluetooth issue could also cause the the phone to have a brain-fart.

When the call drops , the mobile signal also drops to zero. But it returns, within about 5 secs I acknoweldge the error message on the phone's screen.  There are no error messages appearing on the BWM's screen.

I know that the areas I'm driving through have good signal (apart from 2 brief patches).  In those known weak mobile signal areas, I can observe the mobile signal declining, and the call audio quality declines.  Then the call drops.  In this scenario, there are no error messages appearing on the phone's screen.  So the behaviour is quite different.

That's quite odd, could you test it in >>> safe mode

Still having the same problem. The phone vibrates, beeps and flashes a pop-up (at top of screen) that it's connecting to a PC every 2-3 secs.

My work-around is to not charge my phone in the car via USB cable.  If I use phone via Bluetooth, and no power connected, it works fine.

Annoying!  Perhaps i'll have to buy a different phone next time.
