When I plug the earphones into my phone, they are not detected. When I restart the phone, then only they are detected. So, every time I have to use the earphones, I have to restart the phone. Kindly help..

Try performing a system repair as this will often fix issues - This will factory reset your phone

Switch off your phone and unplug from Pc (Hold volume up and power for around 10 seconds)
Start PC Companion and select Support zone then Update my phone/tablet then in Blue Repair my phone/tablet and follow the onscreen instructions - When prompted connect your phone still switched off holding volume down or back button - This should start the repair or reformat process

If you are using Windows 8/8.1 or a 64bit operating system then adjust the settings for PC Companion and run in compatibility mode and chose Windows 7 or XP

Mr Thommo it's a request, please check z1 earphone detection problem. Please insert any earphone with mic which is unsupported by z1 such as xperia mini, micro max, Samsung etc, when you will insert such earphone a message will pop up on screen with unsupported headphone and then insert z1 earphone(which comes with z1) the the sound will comes from z1 speaker not from earphone. You have to restart mobile to get back sound in z1 earphone.
Only z1 earphone and earphones without mic works with z1. When you use other earphones with mic such as Klipsch s4i only first time you get sound in it and after unplugged non earphone works even z1 earphone, you have to restart the mobile.
This bug comes after kiitkat update. I fully repaired my mobile but problem is in kiitkat, please test and forward this bug to Sony.

I have performed the system repair and the problem still persists. I also agree with Kulveer on the fact that it's a bug which is required to be removed.

Same problem here.  Problem still exist.

My incoming call is dead.  When plug in headset I can hear, but when remove the loudspeaker plays even though I didn't touch the speaker button, at first I thought it was the ear speaker, but I was just wishful.

Tried repair, and reboot. Problem still exist. Help.

Sony should let us upgrade to the z3 for free. Probably would save money then paying technician for repair or pay engineer to fix the software.
