How do I block numbers?

There's a option to divert calls from numbers you don't want contacting you to your voicemail but is there one where you can block all aspects of contact through text too?

There's not a way to do this by default in the Xperia X, however there are third party apps that have this functionality.

I think TrueMessenger should do it for example, but there's plenty of others available on the Google Play Store.

But please be aware we cannot guarantee the effectiveness of third party apps, nor provide toubleshooting for them.

@Amie1: you can also try to call your network provider to block that number from reaching you

Sadly CameronT and nolramlb are both right, oddly enough stock dialers are lacking such function, Xperia android is mostly vanilla so no number block for us, however some carriers allow to activate such function so you may want to call your carrier and asking if they can activate the such function in your Sim card, if the carrier has such function and it's active you should get an extra details menu that allow you to block phone numbers selectively.

Another way is to create a contact name in Contacts, I have one called Ignored. Add each number you want to block as a different phone number for Ignored, then Tap in settings for that contact and select to send all calls to voice-mail.
