I have an Xperia E that I bought a few months ago. With the new phone I had been a little over-enthusiastic and had disabled data usage for a few system apps like Walkman and a few non-system apps during the first data usage cycle (the first month) [Settings--Data usage--app--Restrict all data]. I did not expect that, after four data usage cycles, Android would just take it for granted the data usage settings I had set for apps in the previous cycles. The data usage screen shows only the last four cycles. It does not show the cycles before that, and I am left with no option to re enable the data for those apps.
I have tried a few methods, like uninstalling the apps and then reinstalling them again, which works but is possible only for non-system apps. I have also tried modifying the data cycle starting dates, and that worked for a couple of apps but still there are a few more left. I also tried settings reset (not factory reset), but it too did not help. I know a factory reset may solve the problem, but the apps I talk about don't obligatorily need internet, so that would be tedious.
I have searched the internet, but couldn't find a solution, or even the problem itself, seems not many people disable data usage for apps using the built-in firewall. Has anyone ever faced this problem? Does anyone know of a solution except for a factory reset or a repair using SUS?
How about
settings > apps > all > select the app > clear data
I have tried clearing data, it did not solve the problem. It seems the problem is just the result of a poorly thought of option implemented by Android engineers. Hope they redesign the interface of the option in their subsequent versions.
If all fail then perform a settings reset
I have tried settings reset (not factory reset) at Settings-Back up and reset-settings reset. It did not solve the problem, and performing a factory reset would be tedious- I will have to download all apps again and set them all up again. I guess there is no easy solution.
The last method - to use wifi - worked. But the feature is definitely not a well contrived one. Hope Android developers come across this bug and fix it.
