I can't close my open apps.

When I'm using long press on Home button with my Xperia U (Gingerbread), the list of RECENT apps gets opened.

I have another device on which when I long press the Home button, it give me list of all the open apps and I can drag the undesired ones from this list, to the left side and the app gets closed.

This is not happening with my Xperia U.

Please suggest me a short cut way to close all the open apps other than going through Settings.

Depending on the firmware you may need to double tap the home button to bring up recent apps to then be able to swipe them away

I tried double tap as well but unfortunately, not working.

It just gives me homescreen (on first click to Home button itself).

Tap longer on home screen.You can also go to settings-apps-running,force close them.
