Locate backup with bridge

Hi there,

I see that this string is quite old but my Z1 broke and have gone in for repairs - I backed the phone up using bridge but cant locate any back-up - used the string attached to find back-up folder but nothing there. Is there anywhere else that I can look for my contacts. I have not got the phone back yet but also cant see any contacts or restore to back-up phone

Thanks

Hi HvG911!

Try this:

fredriklindholm@Fredriks-MBP:~$ cd Library/
fredriklindholm@Fredriks-MBP:~/Library$ cd "Application Support"/
fredriklindholm@Fredriks-MBP:~/Library/Application Support$ cd "Sony Ericsson Bridge for Mac"/
fredriklindholm@Fredriks-MBP:~/Library/Application Support/Sony Ericsson Bridge for Mac$ ls

Do the terminal show a backup folder after the ls comand?

The backup is not stored in plain text so you cant read the files.

If something is unclear please contact me again.

Best regards

Fredrik

Hi Fredrik,

Apologies for delayed response, I found the files once I set the library to show in application support. So have the back-up files but they dont seem to have to much data as size is shown as -- and then all folders have a txt file with scribble.

I managed to get a Z1 loan today from my network but cant seem to restore the BU to the phone - does it need to be a compact or my specidic phone?

Hi!

You cant get any information from the backup you need to access the backup through BFM.

The problem you have is that you have a new phone and the backup only works with the same phone.

There is a trick you can do but I don’t guarantee anything.

But you can try this:

Make sure not to have Bridge open while attempting this.

If you can locate the old backup folder in ~/Library/Application Support/Sony Ericsson Bridge for Mac/Backups

should be something like

 Screen Shot 2014-04-07 at 11.46.14 AM.png

then you have the old backups. What you want to do is create a backup from your new phone, which should create another folder. Make sure to make a copy of the new backup so you can restore the phone if this solution doesn't work. Then open the first folder and copy the folder with the date you want to restore from (the folders are called "2014-01-01" etc.), and move it into the new folder. Then try to restore your phone again. Make sure not to have Bridge open while attempting this.

If you have any more questions, please don't hesitate to ask me!

Best regards

Fredrik

Hi Guys,

I have also experienced the same issues with my Z1 after upgrading to lollipop 5.0.2, I did the software repair many times and it never worked, but after reading the whole post thread i used the other option of switching off the microphone noise supression and speaker voice enhancement and for now it is working very well, people can hear me again thanks.

I have not been this appalled by a software update since Windows Vista, this is truly degrading to Sony, and i hate the fact that they wont come up with a work around but keep sending us on a wild goose chase like all our devices just suddenly have hardware defects after a software update like really now:(, I am an engineer and i know a bug when i come across one!!. Your testers must do what you pay them to not us!!!
