Phone not connectig to computer

My phone sais its internal memory is connected to the pc, it also charges. but my PC companion does not detect it and therefore i cannot acces my files whilst on my PC and nowhere i can find a solution to this. it connected once but doesn't do it again.

settings > xperia connectivity > usb connectivity > usb connection mode > mtp

i am using windows 7

you may follow the following :

1. Disconnect the phone from computer.
2. uninstall the PCC
3. reboot the system
4. Install the PCC.
5. reboot the system.
6. once rebooted run the PCC
7. now connect the phone to computer
