Phone turning itself off

This Sony Xperia z3 was given to me as a gift. It turns itself off randomly. I've never had a phone that has done this!! Very frustrating, also I'm on call with my nursing job. Unfortunately I cannot continue to use this phone.

Is it always completely random or does the phone always restart if you perform a specific action? How often do the restarts occur?
