t3 compass issue

Hi,

My compass seems not to work properly. I tried many different compass apps, I did calibration etc. but they all point to wrong (apparently random) directions. Also in google maps the heading is incorrect in compass mode. And this is regardless of whether I'm inside a building or outside.

Could you please suggest whether it is a software or hardware issue? Are other users experiencing similar problems?

Should send the phone for repair?

Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.

Do you have any case/cover on your phone with a magnet? If yes, you could try with out the cover to see if you experience the same behaviour.

Otherwise, you could try to calibrate the compass via the service menu. Go to the phone app (dialer) and enter the following code: *#*#7378423#*#* > Service Tests > Compass.

I did not use a case, and I tried calibration (multiple times) from the service menu, as you suggested. However, still no effect. The compass seems to show a right direction for a while, but it is very erratic after a few seconds it might turn around even 180 degrees or so and then would not return to the correct direction. When this happens the redings jump from normal 40-50 units to 100-200 units.

I'd be grateful for any further suggestions.
