From the above link I wanna know what is open source and what is the use of it in sony mobiles

Android is open source and as per the contracts with Google the coding of their modules like for example the kernel are made available - So the source is the coding which developers can download and should they wish to, Modify which in turn enables custom roms to be made like CyanogenMod etc
