Xperia Active Screen Problem

I got my first xperia active late last year after selling an iphone 4 which i had got for a few weeks, 2 months latter i picked it up to make a call the screen was out, and it never turned on again...

checked at various repair centers, no one could do anything about it.

got a similar one same xperia active i had got the first time because i fell in love with it, just today i held it to make a phone call and there's the screen again refusing to turn on even though the touch screen is working... i plugged it to my laptop and it syncronised normally exept that the screen is always out...

the ugly thing is, it cant be fixed, since nothing could have been done to the last one...

after being Ericsson/SonyEricsson's loyal customer for 13 consecutive years i guess its time to make that shift to another brand.

what do you think i should do?

Under our warranty terms (if you qualify), you are entitled to repair, or when it cannot be repaired, replacement.

I'm not sure what locations you were dealing with before, but this time you should start by calling us directly: http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/support/contact-us/contact-info/

i got blank screen too after 4 months i use Xperia Active, one day i got similar problem like you ddoummar. My screen is blackout and only the light just turn on , and when i attach to my laptop it's detected and syncronize normally. Now everytime it shows blackout when i try to unlock the screen but sometimes i plug off the battery and then plug in the battery and turn it on again ... it's normal and showing something.

I've got 3 friends that had a same problem ... and 2 of my friends had sent their Xperia Active to Sony Repair Center at Jakarta - Indonesia. Hopefully it can be repaired.

Is it a bug or something to Sony Xperia Active product ?? maybe you guys at sony trying to investigating this issue so Sony loyal customers will satisfied.

Thanks,

Bass

I have same problem like that and now my Xperia Active at service center Sony for repair but i am still afraid if Xperia Active I have returned from service center, whether this will happen again ? because I personally think this is a weakness of hardware problem that must replaced.

i have the most werird problem... I have idea postpaid connection. and my phone( xperia active ) does not detect the sim card... any other sim card works in the phone.. and my idea sim card works in any other cell. i am confused... if its a sim card problem or phone problem. neither sony is understanding this nor the idea company.

Another one with the same problem.

Is the company doing anything to adress this that seems to be a systematic problem with this model? Or the standard answer is just to get a new cellphone and have the same problem again?

So is there anyway to fix this myself. I have taken the battery out a million times, I try to start it up and then it vibrates and the screen stays black. The buttons on the bottom light up and will vibrate if I touch them but that is about it.

I tried and update nothing.

I tried to reboot nothing.

I took out the batter a gizillion times, nothing.

Called customer service at 14 euro cents a minute, thanks Germany...can't help try the update and two of the following programs to retrieve my info, my pc companion...super I have to use my phone to go any further in this program. Hard to do with a black screen!!! The other I can start.

My laptop recognizes the phone but cannot download anything or give me access to the data. I am a bit pissed off because I have contacts I didn't save to the sim card or memory card yet as they are new. Is there any solution or will this question remained unanswered. If It cannot be repaired this will be the last time I ever buy anything from Sony again.

If it vibrates, the bootloader should work. Try this:

  1. Pull the battery, wait a few seconds and put it back
  2. Connect the USB cable to the phone, not to the computer yet
  3. Do not press the power button at all!
  4. Hold down the Volume Down button
  5. Plug the USB cable to the computer
  6. The computer should detect a S1boot device
  7. Release the Volume Down button

You should see some reference to S1boot in Linux dmesg or lsusb, or in a pop-up window on Windows XP at least.

Does it work this far? I am sorry, I did not try further than that yet; I would be interested in some instructions how to flash a Sony firmware from Linux, without unlocking the bootloader. There is a fastboot included in the Android SDK; I assume that it would work.

When my phone recently suffered a black screen of death (refused to boot up beyond the vibrate, and the Windows-based firmware update did not help) I sent it to warranty repair, for the 4th time. (The 3rd time was real hardware issue almost a year ago, and the first 2 repairs were due to a firmware bug (reboot loop) that was fixed by a firmware update in February 2012.)

Edit: while I do not like the firmware bugs, I like the Active hardware (ANT+Sport, good GPS, credit card form factor, and water-proof case). I bought a 2nd Active as a spare when I picked up it from the 1st repair, and I might buy a 3rd one if they still lower the price before they run out.

I had a similar problem with my xperia active. The screen completely failed on startup, only a LED light showing it was ON. I installed a new LCD and digitizer (bought it from ebay for around 20 USD) and everything worked fine again. Installing the new screen is a bit tricky since it's glued to the frame, but with some patience and sharp knive i managed to peel it off.

I hope this helps for the other people with similar problems. It worked for me :-).
