I have att now, if i buy the copmpact phone will it work with att and receive 4g lte?? I vwas also thinking switching to tmobile, will this work with that carrier in the us states.

You will get AT&T's LTE but it will be limited 

Xperia Z1 compact

LTE 800 / 850 / 900 / 1700 / 1800 / 1900 / 2100 / 2600

AT&T's LTE 

 700 (4)    1700/2100 (17) (1700 for uplink - 2100 for downlink) 

I have the Xperia Z1 with 

LTE 800 / 850 / 900 / 1700 / 1800 / 1900 / 2100 / 2600 - C6903

So it varies, if the area has 700 LTE and not 1700/2100 I only get H+
