All of the sudden, two weeks ago, the phone stopped receiving texts. Could send them, make and receive calls, and use mobile data. I chatted with Verizon and they created a "NRB" ticket. Texts started working the next day. Everything was fine for 2 weeks
Friday morning it started again. Wen't through all the same stuff with Verizon again, but 2 ways later, they're still not working. Anyone else had this issue?
Google seems to think that Verizon "NRB Ticket" is an indication that local engineers are supposed to look into something. i.e. a network problem.
Does the phone receive texts in other locations?
Since it stopped working on Friday, I've been within 5 miles or our house the whole time, except for an hour or two when I had to drive 30 miles away.
I heard back from Verizon this morning: "Sorry you are having trouble with texting it is my favorite thing on a phone. Here is what the network engineers who handled the ticket say. Network trace of texting records show a "protocol error" coming from the device which is causing the error."
They suggest trying their Messages+ texting app, then performing a factory reset if that doesn't fix it.
That was a waste of two hours of my life. Tried their stupid app, but no texts came through. Then I backed up everything and did a factory reset. Still no texts.
I have been using the Textra app. I do not remember exactly why I installed it. (Probably something to do with being able to "Black List" annoying phone numbers.) I must like it enough to have paid to disable ads.
How about installing Textra temporarily (free version) and see what happens? (or, pick any other texting app)
I'll try that, but I'm not optimistic.
After another 2 hours with Verizon Tier 2 support, they now think I need a new sim card. Now I get to waste 2 more hours of my life trying to get a new one of those tonight.
It's quicker to try a different text app.
