That is the icon that tells you that you have NFC activated in your device.
NFC makes it easy for you to instantly connect two devices and share photos, music files, contact information and more with your friends. NFC lets you scan tags, for example on a poster you see in the street to get a discount in a store, or, you can scan a tag that is set to, for example, start your workout playlist. In some regions you can use NFC as a payment method, where your device is basically your credit or debit card.
You can turn this off in Settings > Device connections > NFC, or Settings > More > NFC depending on your Android version.
