Overheating?

Hi, the XZs my brother has bought recently seems to be experiencing overheating issues when using the camera app. When I record a 4k video, I'm sometimes only able to get 5 minutes worth of recording before camera shuts down (max I got was 15 minutes recording). Worse is 2 minutes.

After camera shut down, the UI lags for a few minutes. The temperature of the phone, measured with the app "Cooling Master-Phone Cooler", usually idles at 42 Celcius and the max I got after 4k recording is 47 Celcius. The phone has very few apps running in the background as it's a new phone. Is this too high?

But even there are review-videos on youtube which say the phone which was just unboxed with no other apps, crashes the camera app in 5-10 mins max. Even normal social app browsing also heats the phone as per them.

Freshly unboxed devices will come with outdated software, I advise you to search for a recent review with an up-to-date firmware.

Will it not overheat with new firmware/oreo updates and all?

No, don't just trust me. Search more and try to find a recent review or YouTube video.

EDIT: On this video, XZs stopped after 48 min of 4K recording.

Hmm.. lets see how it goes once i get the phone.. it has been a long time since multicore processors r in the market.. if cpu is the cause of heating, cant they just give an option (without need of rooting) to park unused cores e.g. two from each set of high and low speed quad cores.. as per our usage.. then it could hav been better..

That's true! I recently tried this functionality and after 5 minutes, it starts to heat and notifies me that the temperature is high. I don't know if it has something to do with the casing of Sony XZs
