Quick questions, quick replies; ask anything about the Xperia XZ1 Compact!

Hello everyone!

We tried out a new concept where we mainly let our community assist each other with product/feature questions in the Xperia XZ Premium board and it was a success! So, let's keep it rolling. smile happy

The purpose of this thread is to ask anything that you wish to know about the Xperia XZ1 Compact; other users owning an Xperia XZ1 Compact and forum staff will do our best to reply!

As an example, prior to purchasing an Xperia XZ1 Compact, you may be wondering if someone has tried out a specific third party app or feature on their XZ1 Compact, and could tell you a bit more about the compatibility and functionality as the app may important in your daily life. Staff and other users can come in and reply and let you know how it works!

The goal of this thread is to help each other out as a community. We will try to moderate this thread so that any new threads with a fitting question will instead be moved here, while we of course keep support threads the way they are now.

NOTE:
Support related questions, such as raising concerns and troubleshooting are best suited in a different thread/their own thread. Please try to see if there is a thread regarding your concern, and if not, feel free to create one! smile happy

Hi, I'm super keen to buy the XZ1 Compact as it is the only Android phone of its type. What I don't understand is - how come we can't uninstall 3rd party apps like Kindle, Amazon, FB or AVG? The 32 GB of memory isn't much these days and every little extra bit helps. Does Sony get money from these companies for preventing uninstall? Sure seems like it.

I agree, this is an annoyance. I just disable them though.

I've 2 questions :

1) Is there a Task Manager for one to manage to-do items? In the past (Z3 Compact and Z5 Compact), it is under the Calendar and you just need to select "Tasks" to input in all the things you want to do. I don't see this in the XZ1 Compact's calendar application anymore.

2) PC Companion has been replaced with the Xperia Companion. The latter does not seem to offer synchronisation of contacts/calendar information from Outlook anymore. This is quite a critical piece of application for me. I tried using the PC Companion but it cannot detect the XZ1 Compact.

Hello 😊

I was wondering if it's possible to transfer apps from internal memory to the sd-card?

to 2)

The "old" PC Companion detects the XZ1 Compact.

I use the updated version, which was included with the XCompact.

As others have mentioned, you can disable most of the apps which do not interest you, by tapping and holding on the app's icon and dragging it to App Info. An improvement over previous setups is that in most cases when you disable an app you are given the option of reverting to the original pre-update installation for that app. In many cases, the original is just a stub or placeholder for the lastest version and is likely less than 100 kb in size (almost meaningless in terms of space). So you can clear out most of the unneeded apps taking up space.

Can I disable camera button on right side of Xpedia xz1 compact? It has an odd placement and I'm worried I'll accidentally launch camera while holding phone

@Sonybob open Camera, tap the coghweel icon, then More, scroll to the bottom of the list and change Quick launch to Off.

I know that with the older Xperia phones you are able to disable the camera but but I contacted Sony today and they said that it cannot be disabled on the Xperia xz-1 Compact so are you sure?
